Innovation in Action was a digital project and was available for S4 – S6 students from all across Scotland!
This programme gave secondary students a chance to design a smart, sustainable product or app that improved life for visually impaired people. The challenge required students to think creatively and develop a solution that was both practical and eco-friendly.
Whether it was a useful everyday tool, a game-changing app, or a clever new idea, designs needed to be well thought out, with consideration given to materials, costs, and how they could be produced. Concepts could be sketched by hand or created using CAD software.
Throughout the process, participants documented their ideas, research, and decisions in a project report, showing how their design evolved. Finally, all elements were brought together in a short, recorded presentation to share each vision with the judges.
The Innovation in Action programme aimed to help students develop a comprehensive understanding of design and sustainable manufacturing processes while fostering teamwork, technical writing, and presentation skills tailored to diverse audiences, including those with visual impairments.
