Manson – Oldmeldrum and Mosquitoes |
Part of the University of Aberdeen's Manson Celebrations
Patrick Manson, widely recognised as the 'Father of Tropical Medicine', was born in Oldmeldrum and started studying at the University of Aberdeen 150 years ago. He became a key figure in the history of parasitology through major discoveries in tropical diseases. After moving to Hong Kong he established the College of Medicine and became its Dean. In later years he returned to England and continued ground breaking research into a variety of parasitic diseases. Tony Hedley, Professor of Public Health at the University of Hong Kong will provide insight into the life and work of Patrick Manson, from both an Aberdeen and Hong Kong perspective.
The lecture, jointed hosted by the Aberdeen Medico-Chirurgical Society and the University of Aberdeen, will be held at 7 pm on Monday 13th September in the Robertson Trust Healthcare Lecture Theatre in the Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning, Foresterhill.
