FLYING KITES WITH THE RSPB SCOTLAND
A lecture on one of the most iconic birds of prey to reside in Scotland, the red kite, is taking place tomorrow (TUESDAY) as part of TechFest In September, Aberdeen's annual festival of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The Flying Kites lecture, which is being given by the RSPB Scotland's red kites officer Jenny Lennon, will detail the history of the red kite reintroduction project in Aberdeen as well as outlining the project's future aspirations.
Jenny will also discuss why the decision was made to reintroduce the birds and give the audience a few handy pointers on how best to spot them.
The event will take place at the University of Aberdeen's Fraser Noble Building at 7.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday, September 22).
Tickets for this event, costing £3.50 for adults and £3 for children and concessions (plus booking fee), and are available by calling Aberdeen Box Office on 01224 641122 or visiting www.boxofficeaberdeen.com
The two-week TechFest In September festival is once again being supported by joint principal funders Shell and BP, demonstrating their investment in a STEM-literate nation and commitment to the future development of the global oil and gas industry.
The festival is now in its 16th year of engaging young people in the four main STEM subjects and encouraging them to go on to follow a career which utilises these skills, as well as instilling the relevance of STEM in adult life.
Liz Hodge, Managing Director of TechFest-SetPoint, the charity which runs the festival, said: "The red kite is a truly magnificent species of bird and we are really lucky to have them residing in Scotland. Jenny's lecture will give some history behind the bird as well as giving those who are keen to see it in the flesh some tips and pointers on how best to spot them."
