Local MP to support STEM In The Pipeline 2007
West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MP Sir Robert Smith has paid a visit to the STEM In The Pipeline workshops set up by Tech-Fest-SetPoint at the University of Aberdeen today.
STEM In the Pipeline is a three part oil and gas industry event for teams of S6 pupils led and designed by industry professionals.
Sir Robert said: “ I am delighted to support the students from local schools at this event. The great strength of the ‘STEM In the Pipeline’ workshops is that pupils get to see how maths, physics, chemistry can be applied to an industry problem. They get a chance to work in teams and test out their skills using real data to solve a variety of exercises.
“I congratulate SETPOINT Scotland North for organising such a valuable project which I am sure will inspire many of the young students to pursue a career in science, technology or engineering. It provides an excellent opportunity for pupils to see how their maths and science subjects can be applied to real life problems. It is crucial that we get young people involved more in these kinds of ‘hands-on’ projects where they meet people from industry and see how their own skills can be used in a future career.”
