Maths In The Pipeline - Victory for Team Cleeton in Inverness
The Cleeton team – a pupil from each of: Charleston Academy, Glen Urquhart Academy, Inverness High School, Inverness Royal Academy, Millburn Academy and Nairn Academy
54 pupils from ten Highland Schools realised the importance of mathematical skills when they successfully solved a series of oil and gas industry problems . In the morning the teams of S4 students, led by industry professionals, successfully calculated the volume of oil in a subsurface reservoir, forecasted the gas production from a field and plotted the best route for a North Sea helicopter pilot. Their biggest challenge, and the highlight of their days work, was the afternoon's Business Challenge when they were asked to optimise the production from a new field in Azerbaijan. Team work and accuracy came to the fore. With a deadline to meet and a proposal to present it was team Cleeton that finally clinched the victory.
The schools taking part were: Charleston Academy. Culloden Academy, Fortrose Academy, Glen Urquhart Academy, Invergordon Academy, Inverness High School, Inverness Royal Academy, Kingussie High School, Millburn Academy and Nairn Academy
