SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS OF THE FUTURE SHOW OFF THEIR RESEARCH

Young scientists, engineers and technologists from 57 schools across Scotland will show off their latest research at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh this week.

The 83 young people, along with a further 14 who are not able to make the event on Friday (August 28) have spent the summer taking part  in the Nuffield School Bursary Scheme, which encourages their interest in pursuing a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).

Managed by TechFest SetPoint in Scotland, the Nuffield School Bursary Scheme offers the students a bursary to allow them to work alongside practising scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians in commercial or industrial establishments, research institutions or universities for up to six weeks during the summer holidays.

The students also have the opportunity to find out more about their placement organisation's work.

Liz Hodge, Managing Director of TechFest-Setpoint, said: "Friday's celebration event will offer the students the opportunity to display what they have achieved during their placements and meet other bursary students, supervisors, teachers and guests.

"We are pleased to welcome our guest of honour, Dr Alan Walker, Secretary of the Institute of Physics in Scotland, who will present the students with their certificates of achievement."

·         TechFest-Setpoint also runs TechFest In September 2009, Aberdeen's annual festival of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), which is set to attract a record 20,000 visitors between September 11 and 28. Book tickets online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com or call Aberdeen Box Office on 01224 641122.
