Shell Greenpower Challenge - 2009 RESULTS

Alford Buzz over Young Engineers!

There was an exciting buzz at the Grampian Transport Museum at the weekend as enterprising young engineers and technologists from schools throughout the country took up the Shell Greenpower Challenge in electric powered cars that they designed and built themselves. 

Around 300 primary and secondary school pupils from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll and the Highlands competed in a fun packed final over two days at the track in Alford - Primary school pupils in 'Goblin' cars took to the circuit on Saturday 20 June while the secondary school pupils in 'F24' cars was on Sunday 21 June.  

Sir Robert Smith MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine presented certificates and trophies to the primary school teams:

Winner:             Dunecht Primary School;

Runner-up:        Kirkhill Primary School

Third Place:       Logie Durno Primary School

Best Car Design: Johnshaven Primary School

Best Presented Team: Tullynessle Primary School

The secondary F24 certificates and prizes were presented by Mr Jim Niven, Shell Communications Stakeholder manager:

Winner: Thurso High School "Roadrunners"

Runner-up & Best presented team: Grampian Transport Museum's Young Engineer's Club "Alford Rocket"

Third Place & Best Newcomer: Tarbert Academy "Electronicals"

Best Engineered car:   Kingussie High School "Silver Streak"

IoM3 Innovative Use of Recycled Materials: Bankhead Academy "Blazer 2"

Part of the winning prize for the "Roadrunners" is a trip to attend the National Final at Goodwood Motor Circuit in October 2009, courtesy of event sponsors Shell U.K.Limited.
