Activity Weekend Travel Information

The Celebrate Aberdeen Parade (26th August) and Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run and Half Marathon (27th August) may cause disruption to your journey to TechFest. Below are details of road closures and transport changes.

Sunday 27 August - The day starts with the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run 10km at 09:00am, followed by the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run half marathon at 10:30am. The day will conclude with the family run event at 1:30pm.

All of the races on the day start and finish on Union Street with the event village based on Union Terrace and within Union Terrace Gardens.  A number of roads within the city centre and surrounding areas will be affected by the events, and road closures and traffic diversions will be in operation on the day.

The closures for the Simplyhealth Great Aberdeen Run course will prevent vehicular access for a period of time.

Please note that emergency service vehicles will have access at all times. For safety reasons, there will be no course access unless by emergency services in the event of an emergency.

Road closures will be phased, with closures running from 04:30 – 06:30am; and re-openings between 12:15 – 5:30pm. Please note that these times are approximate and we will open the roads when deemed safe to do so. Access to local properties will be maintained where possible by race marshals until one hour before the race start.

For safety reasons, all parking bays will be suspended at 18.00 on Saturday 26th August until between 12.15 – 17.30 on Sunday 27th August, as detailed on the zone map. Please ensure that cars are removed from the race route, when roads will be restricted due to event set up. Any vehicles left within the road closures will not be allowed to move for the duration of the enforcement period.

ALL roads within each zone will reopen once runners have passed through and the event infrastructure has been removed. We ask that anyone who parks directly on the route, and who wishes to avoid the road closure period, relocate their vehicle prior to the road restrictions to ensure they can complete their journeys. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the event, although safety barriers will be in place at key locations to safely manage participants and spectators.

Warning notices will be installed in advance of the event and a large steward and marshal team will be in place on the day to assist residents and participants.

Alternate routes should be planned in advance to avoid road closures.

Our public transport partners will be operating revised routes on the day, so to plan your journey please visit:
