School's Engineering Challenge
Schools’ Engineering Challenge
Now in its 15th year, the challenge is open to pupils in Primary P6 & P7 and Secondary S1 & S2 from schools in Aberdeen City and ‘Shire.
The aim of the Engineering Challenge is for pupils, competing in teams of 4, to undertake a construction experiment demonstrating many of the principals of engineering.
Working to a new challenge each year - which is only revealed to teams on the day itself - the teams must design and then construct a scale model, followed by a short presentation to the judges outlining their response to the challenge brief.
The best overall model is chosen on its ability to meet the specified design brief, it’s operational capability, the cost of the materials used and the teamwork displayed by the group. Teamwork is judged on pupil’s attitude and approach to the “spirit of the challenge” with all members expected to bring energy, skill and ingenuity to the task.
