Primary Schools Week

Dundee Science Festival's Primary School Programme (P4-P7)

This year's festival has 12 host schools generously providing the venues for a range of exciting workshops and presentations, and there will also be a fully comprehensive range of outreach activities on offer, including trips to Dundee's Verdant Works and Mills Observatory, among others. In recent years the festival has been growing in strength and popularity and in 2009 a total of  2769 pupils took part in the festival which was an increase on previous years and we hope to emulate and build upon this success again in 2010.

Between Monday 1^st and Friday 5^th November a whole host of fascinating and fun workshops will be on offer in various schools and venues across Dundee. The Dundee Science Festival Schools Programme will be in all Dundee primary schools on the 1^st September. This the festival is taking place during Science and Technology week, therefore this is a fantastic opportunity for teachers to base projects around the presentations and workshops their classes attend.

Priority booking for Host schools to book the activities happening within their own schools takes place from 1^st – 7^th September 2010.

Bookings for ALL Dundee Primaries will commence on the 8^th September 2010, bookings taken on a first come first served basis.

Aimed at primary 4, 5, 6 & 7 pupils all activities have been chosen and devised to complement areas of the Curriculum for Excellence; the presentations and workshops are intended to augment teaching in an environment which is appealing and enjoyable to all. The Dundee Science Festival is part of an ongoing strategy to raise the profile of STEM subjects throughout Tayside and the opportunities these subjects offer.

It is sincerely hoped that the Dundee Science Festival will continue to inspire both teachers and pupils and give them a passion for Science Technology, Engineering and Maths!
